American television host Bret Baier has come under fire online after complaining about a parking fine in Beijing — while his own filming crew was seen obstructing traffic during rush hour.
In a video posted recently, Baier was seen standing in the middle of a bicycle lane in Beijing while recording a segment, forcing cyclists and electric scooter riders to detour around him. Members of his crew were also reportedly walking backward while filming and occupying part of the roadway.

The footage, which lasted nearly 40 seconds and was filmed during a busy commuting period, drew attention from local commuters, many visibly puzzled by the group's behavior.
During the segment, Baier complained that his team received a $40 fine after parking illegally for "two minutes", emphasizing that "there are cameras everywhere" in Beijing and claiming that one intersection had "at least 20" surveillance cameras.
The remarks quickly drew criticism from media commentators and social media users, many accusing the crew of hypocrisy for violating local traffic rules while criticizing China's traffic enforcement system.
Krystal Ball, co-host of Breaking Points, criticized the framing on her program, arguing that supporters of "law and order" should welcome efficient enforcement technology rather than condemn it. She added that the incident highlighted how far China has advanced technologically compared with the United States.
Many foreign social media users also questioned the crew's conduct, asking why they broke local rules and disrupted traffic. Some noted US media outlets would likely react angrily if a Chinese news crew behaved similarly in the United States. Others accused the report of exaggerating the situation by filming in the middle of traffic instead of using nearby sidewalks.
One X user commented under the clip: "When you're a guest in another country, you don't get to ignore the rules and then criticize how things are run."
Another wrote: "Fox News complains about a parking ticket while their reporter films in the middle of busy traffic in Beijing. Rules for thee, not for me. The arrogance follows them everywhere."
