4/17,$Apple(AAPL.US)$It was announced on the official website that the Apple Card High Yield Savings Account (Savings Account), which had been in the works for a long time, was officially launched, similar in function to the domestic “Balance Bank”. According to reports, this account was launched in collaboration with Apple and Goldman Sachs, providing a high yield annual interest rate of 4.15%, which is more than 10 times the US average, which sounds very attractive.

It is worth noting that not long ago, on March 28, Apple just used its installment service (Apple Pay Later, similar to “flower payment”) to break into the consumer finance market, and is now intensively launching savings accounts to seize Bank of America deposits, fully demonstrating its determination to expand its financial services products.

According to reports, starting April 17, Apple Card users can choose a Goldman Sachs Savings Account to increase their daily cash rewards. The account provides a high yield annual interest rate of 4.15% (as of April 14, 2023), which is more than 10 times the US average (data comes from the national interest rate and interest rate limit for savings deposit products announced by the US Federal Deposit Insurance Company. The date is March 20, 2023). There are no fees or minimum deposit or balance requirements.

Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet at Apple, said, “Savings help our users get more value from their favorite Apple Card benefit — Daily Cash (Daily Cash), while providing them with an easy way to save money every day.”

Apple Card is a new type of credit card introduced by Apple in August 2019. It is only open to the American public. Every time a consumer uses an Apple Card through Apple Pay, they receive 2%-3% “Daily Cash” cashback.

Doesn't it look familiar? Cultivate users' payment habits through cashback envelopes, and then guide customers to deposit the change in their accounts into balance management accounts in order to develop richer financial services business in the future — this is in line with Alipay's original path of launching the Yubao service.

Apple said that once a savings account is established, the cash that users will earn every day in the future can be automatically deposited into that account. To further increase savings, users can also deposit additional funds into their savings accounts through linked bank accounts or Apple Cash balances. Users can also withdraw funds and transfer them to their associated bank account or Apple Cash card at no charge.

Jennifer Bailey also admits, “Our goal is to build tools that help users lead healthier financial lives, and build savings features into the Apple Card in Wallet so they can spend, send, and save their daily cash directly and seamlessly in one place.”

Just launched the Apple version of “Flower Love” half a month ago, aimed at consumer finance

It is worth noting that half a month ago, the Apple version of “Apple Pay Later” (Apple Pay Later) was only officially launched. This installment payment service allows users to apply for Apple Pay Later loans of $50 to $1,000 for online and in-app purchases on iPhones and iPads from merchants that accept Apple Pay.

Users can split the purchase into four installments over six weeks, with no interest or fees. Jennifer Bailey said that Apple Pay Later was designed with the user's financial situation in mind, so there are no fees or interest, and can be used and managed in the Apple Wallet, making it easier for consumers to make wise and responsible borrowing decisions.

According to reports, Apple Pay Later is provided by Apple Finance LLC, a subsidiary of Apple, which is responsible for credit evaluations and loans. Apple Finance plans to start reporting Apple Pay Later loans to US credit institutions this fall to reflect in users' overall financial situations and help promote responsible lending to lenders and borrowers.

As can be seen, from issuing an Apple Card with Goldman Sachs in 2019 to the recent continuous introduction of installment payment and balance management services, Apple seems to be following in the footsteps of domestic tech giants such as Ali and Tencent. As of today, it is clear that America's tech giants have also seen the huge potential profit potential that financial sidelines may bring.

At a time when traditional banks in the US are under heavy pressure, Apple is now closing the balance management market and has certainly chosen a good time. According to the data, since the second half of 2022, the net loss of US commercial bank deposits has continued, with a net decrease of 644.6 billion US dollars in the week ending March 29. Xiao Chengzhe, chief fixed income analyst at Bank of China Securities, determined that considering the cumulative net increase of US money market mutual funds of 667 billion US dollars during the same period, the main reason for this loss of deposits was deposit movements caused by the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike.

In March of this year, three US banks closed their doors one after another, which further accelerated the speed at which depositors transferred funds from traditional banks. However, as the US banking crisis continues to ease, commercial bank deposits and loans are gradually recovering. In the week ending April 5, commercial bank deposits increased by nearly 61 billion US dollars, ending a 10-week continuous outflow trend.
