Australian fertilizer producer CSBP has proposed to Western Australia's (WA) Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to build and operate a new 300,000 t/yr ammonia plant within its industrial complex in WA's Kwinana Industrial Area (KIA).

The purpose of the expansion is to cater to the growing demand for ammonia in Australia and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, subject to EPA's approval timeline, according to a representative of CSBP.

The proposed facility will be integrated with existing CSBP facilities located in the KIA and will use natural gas sourced from the Dampier-Bunbury natural gas pipeline for its ammonia production, according to the EPA. The proposal has associated scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions of up to 539,003 t/yr of CO2 equivalent during operations and the expected life of the project is 35 years.

CSBP is a major ammonia supplier located in WA. They have a current production capacity of up to 255,000 t/yr, mainly used as raw material for their downstream chemical and fertilizer products, as well as for supply to the domestic market.
